Tony Hunter
“Basic Photography-Getting started at the Intersection of Art and Science”
Friday Breakout session 3-4:30 pm and Saturday Breakout Session 1-2:30 pm
Olmstead Room
Photography presents a fascinating challenge in that it engages both the left and right brain. This presentation will include a discussion of the basic compositional elements in a photograph. Lighting, contrast, visual weight, balance, color, line, shape, and form are examined in order to move beyond snapshots and create quality artistic photographs. In addition to aesthetics, camera function and lens selection are critical. We will consider focal length, aperture, shutter speed, lens filters, and tripod use. Selection of composition along with carefully controlled camera functions will result in a finished photograph that reflects the intent of the photographer.
Bio
Tony’s love of wild places has made him an avid outdoorsman and a lifelong devotee to wilderness travel. After formal training in art and photography at Penn State University, he found himself drawn to the field of nature photography. He strives to meet the challenge of capturing images of nature while waiting for dramatic light to set the mood in his compositions. Tony previously used 35mm film, primarily Fujichrome Velvia. He recently made the transition to digital capture. He has always used Nikon equipment for his photography. Tony has fulfilled two of his passions by traveling to state and national parks, and making a photographic record of the incredible landscapes that he sees during his visits. His dynamic images portrait his visions.
